Be inspired and moved as Australia's best and most award-winning contemporary dance company take centre stage and give life to the seven deadly sins – sloth, greed, gluttony, lust, envy, pride, and wrath.
Expressions Dance Company in partnership with Queensland Performing Arts Centre present internationally acclaimed choreographer, Natalie Weir’s “7 Deadly Sins”. The “7 Deadly Sins” explores the human emotions, consciousness, and sinful nature. It shows how the Man slowly reveals and unleashes each deadly sin into the real world.
Bringing life to each sin are the seven incredible artists – Cloudia Elder (Sloth), Daryl Brandwood (Greed), Jack Ziesing (Gluttony), Elise May (Lust), Rebecca Hall (Envy), Benjamin Chapman (Pride), and Michelle Barnett (Wrath). Witness how the award-winning EDC ensemble, known for bringing in new and exciting works show the degree of temptation and the effects of each deadly sin to one another especially to the Man. The “7 Deadly Sins”, which is also Weir’s fifth signature work for the Expressions Dance Company is a journey filled with villainous wit retold in an edgy and electrifying contemporary storytelling.
Besides the excellent dancers, Weir also collaborated with designers and composers. Drawing inspiration from Giotto di Bondone's paintings of each sin, designer Bill Haycock created a bold and an elegant stage and costumes while David Walters created a striking and dramatic lighting design. Complementing Weir’s choreography and Expressions Dance Company’s beautiful and breathtaking movements is composer Darrin Verhagen’s original and electrifying music.
