The school holiday in April offers the perfect opportunity to head to the coast, and if you’re looking for something to keep the kids busy, don’t miss these upcoming school holiday events taking place near our central Surfers Paradise accommodation!
PlatypusWatch – April 6
PlatypusWatch will invite nature-lovers all of ages to learn about, spot and promote the conservation of the region’s local platypuses. Participants will be identifying platypuses, and recording sightings and promoting the importance of looking after one of Eastern Australia’s most beloved semi-aquatic mammals, which live in the creeks and rivers as well as areas close to tropical rainforest.
This community event comes in light of the recent decline in platypus numbers due to disruption of habitat, water extraction, water pollution and illegal capture. Come along to do your part for the environment, learn a thing or two, and enjoy the opportunity to see spot the local platypus population.
PlatypusWatch is open to all in Bundall near Surfers Paradise on April 6.
Nature’s Art and Craft Workshop – April 12
Part of the current NaturallyGC Program by City of Gold Coast, Nature’s Art and Craft Workshop will invite kids of aged 5-12 to gather up natural materials and get creative.
Taking place in the scenic Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens in Benowa – just a short ride from Surfers Paradise Beach – this fun and educational morning session is a great opportunity for kids to learn about nature as well as get hands-on as they create little sculptures, bugs and more from gathered natural materials.
Nature’s Art and Craft Workshop will have two one-hour sessions at 9am and 10.15am on April 12.
